For the last few months, there has been repeated speculation that Trump is deliberately dismantling and blocking funding to the USPS to make it difficult for people to vote by mail.
In May, Louis DeJoy, a major Trump donor, took over as the new head of the USPS despite having $30-75M in financial conflicts (ownership in USPS competitors).
Since taking over the USPS, DeJoy has blocked overtime pay, removed mailboxes, and removed sorting machines to slow down mail delivery and cut costs.
Trump spoke out yesterday to clarify that the rumors about him wanting to slow down mail in order to hinder voting by mail are true: “Now they need that money in order to make the post office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots…But if they don’t get those two items that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting…”
