Candace Owens has become a media darling for the right for being black and speaking out against black rights.
What most people don’t know though is that she has a history of spreading blatant misinformation and that she only became a conservative media personality after her liberal media business failed.
She also has admitted to blindly following conservative ideologies even when she hasn’t fully researched the topic.
Does all of this information mean that her opinions and viewpoints shouldn’t be listened to? Absolutely not. But it’s important to understand her motives and background.
Her George Floyd Video:
After the George Floyd protests started she made a Facebook video about how George Floyd was a criminal, police brutality against black people is not a real issue and that we should not view him as a hero. The video quickly gained 100M+ views and was shared widely across the social network.
While the video was emotionally compelling, most of it was a straw man argument because protests happened because of George Floyd’s murder, not because he was a saint.
Per the dictionary: “A straw man fallacy occurs when someone takes another person’s argument or point, distorts it or exaggerates it in some kind of extreme way, and then attacks the extreme distortion, as if that is really the claim the first person is making.”
Here’s more about her background:
1. She’s Known To Make Blatantly False Statements
Here’s a clip of her falsely claiming that the NRA was started to help black people fight against the KKK.
Per the NRA, this statement is completely fabricated: https://home.nra.org/about-the-nra/
2. She blindly sides with her ideological side even when she admits that she hasn’t fully researched or understood the topic
This is something that Joe Rogan exposed on his podcast with her. She argued that climate change isn’t real despite also acknowledging it’s something she has read very little about and knows very little about.
3. She Made An Extraordinarily Controversial Statement That The Issue WIth Hitler Is That He Wasn’t A Nationalist
In her words: “If Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, okay fine. The problem is is that he wanted he had dreams outside of Germany, he wanted to globalize.”
She responded to the backlash by attacking the media, not apologizing, and trying to clarify that she was saying that “In America…Nationalism is conflated with…Hitler.” She continued by explaining that, “He wasn’t a nationalist, he was a homicidal, psychotic maniac…and there’s no excuse for everything he did.”
She has also accused anyone who has not watched the full two-hour lecture of taking the clip out of context. Per her clarification, the question asked to her wasn’t about Hitler, it was about how people who believe in the sovereignty of their nation can avoid being called a nationalist.
4. She didn’t become a conservative until Trump got elected and after her liberal media business failed
